travel electric range

hotel 的爐子實在是煮得太慢了.. 今天去 target 買了一台 travel 用的 electric range, US$19.99 (另外再加 6% 的稅)。 雖然是 made in China, 不過功率比 hotel 的好多了, 一鍋水大概12分鐘可以煮到完全沸騰~~ 最方便的是, 它的 size 不大, 以後出差或出去玩, 要自己煮東西、熱東西都很方便滴! 跟電湯匙比起來也安全得多!

今天的晚餐就是牛肉麵囉.. 30分鐘搞定~

公公與媳婦的對話

新婚之後的五個月 老公因公出差n個月 黃媳婦暫且搬回娘家小住 為了表達對公婆的孝意及關心 就在第一個週末打回雲林跟兩老問好…..

公公: 喔喔 如琁唷 你好你好
媳婦OS: 果然剛不知道是我 那’是’啥阿 一般南部人都先問吃飽沒 也來一句吧
媳婦: 爸 你吃飽了沒
公公: 還沒吃 那你吃飽了沒
媳婦OS: 咦 不是一般都會說 吃飽了嗎 = . =
媳婦: 喔 我吃飽了 (騙人的啦 隨便說說)

媳婦OS: 我哪知阿 房門都還沒踏出一步
媳婦: ㄟ~~好像沒有什麼雨 (隨便掰吧)
公公: 雲林這邊下雨下很大
媳婦OS: ㄟ哪我要說什麼?! 安慰雨很大嗎 絞盡腦汁中!!
媳婦: 是唷 喔….那媽在嗎 我跟媽說說話 (快轉移話題)
公公: 媽媽去台北了
媳婦OS: 蝦米 婆婆大人跑來台北了!!
媳婦: 喔喔 那我趕快打給媽 (原來這句是最好解決尷尬的對話 呵)

就這樣 結束了另公公與媳婦的三條線對話~~~媽ㄚ 對黃媳婦來說 比考試還難勒~

Waffle House

這次來 Atlanta 發現了很多之前沒看過的速食連鎖店.. 像是 Waffle House, Chick-fil-A, Steak n Shake... 應該要每間都去試吃看看

昨天下午在外面晃的時候就去 Waffle House 點了個東西吃.. 乍聽之下, Waffle House 應該都是在賣 waffle.. 可是進去看發現其實不是.. 也有賣漢堡、牛排這些吃的.. 它是從 1955 年開始在 Georgia 開始的一家速食連鎖店..

hmm.. 不知道是因為我去的地方比較沒那麼高級.. 感覺其實服務不是太好.. 漢堡也很油膩.. 不是太好吃.. 跟 menu (http://www.wafflehouse.com/ourmenu.asp) 上的東西差很多.

熱心的 hotel sales

在 hotel 的 welcome reception dinner 碰到熱心的 sales Fati.. 從摩洛哥來的.. 在餐上有一搭沒一搭的聊著.. 還給了我們一些名片希望拉一些同事過來這邊住~

隔天 Fati 還送來一些小點心咧.. ㄜ, 不過歹勢, 沒認識什麼人可以介紹來住這裏啦..

New York, 好久不見

離上次去紐約應該是4、5年前的事了吧~ 沒想到這次出差還有機會到 NY 開會~ :)

不過紐約的物價真的太貴啦.. 下飛機買個 wendy's, 就花了快10塊美金; midtown 的 hotel 稅後也將近400塊美金..



因為只有待一天, 趁著下班天還亮到中央公園週遭走走, 探一下明天開會的地方, 也吃吃熱狗跟 pretzel, 感覺還蠻愜意的, 要是老婆也在身邊就好啦.



從中央公園出來到 5th ave 剛好看到 Apple 的一個展售中心, 不愧是 Apple, 展售中心做得蠻炫的! 很多很多人在裏面參觀~





這是明天在IBM開會的地方..整棟鐵黑色, 很有IBM的感覺。



跟 Austin, Raleigh, LA, Atlanta 這幾個都市比較起來, 我還是最喜歡紐約 (不知道是不是因為之前在 NY 待得比較), 天氣比較沒那麼熱 (冬天又能找地方划雪)、環境 (各色人種都有, 感覺沒有哪種人特別多)、建築 (都很雄偉、有特色)


這次在紐約最慘的大概就是開完會之後要搭計程車去機場.. 離開辦公室之前就有同事提醒不容易叫到計程車, 最好到5th ave 交叉口那邊叫, 沒想到真的是非常非常難找到一台空的計程車, 台北的計程車到這邊大概會覺得是天堂吧!! 在招計程車的過程中, 不時有"私家車"開經過問你要去哪, 然後 negotiate 價錢 (好像當兵回營做計程車一樣), 其中一個被我拒絕的從60塊美金開價到降到50塊, 最後還悻悻然的跟我說, 我不坐車的話會 wait forever! 不信邪的話在等了25分鐘後終於放棄, 搭了一台一開價就是45塊的車子 (感覺比較老實一點) 去機場... 還好還來得及~

印象中不記得紐約有人力三輪車, 這次倒看到好多.. 是因為環保? 還是搶計程車生意? 還是美國經濟不好?

Homewood Suite 早餐

Homewood Suite 有附早餐, 雖然不是頂美味可口.. 不過有熱的東西吃, 還是比前一陣子啃冷 bagel 喝冰牛奶強得多~

既然搬到有廚具的suite,應該自己煮個東西吃吧~ 好久沒吃青菜了~

去哪裏買食物呢? 上網查了一下, 沒想到 Atlanta 也有大華超市, 就在 Buford Hwy 那一帶! 也順道去了一趟 WalMart 買了食物回來..



準備就緒, hmm... 電爐有點小, 要煮好久才會滾.. 爐子也不夠大.. 牛肉倒進去整個滿到不行


經過了1個小時 (煮好久水才滾)... 有麵、燙青菜、跟牛肉的食譜.. 原來以為牛肉煮5分鐘就好了.. 沒想到它指的是5分鐘準備好,­煮要6個小時... 吃到青菜還是很開心啦

換 hotel 囉

在 DoubleTree 待了快兩個禮拜後, 下定決心要搬到有廚房的 Homewood Suites hotel.. DoubleTree 雖然有冰箱, 但是沒有微波爐、瓦斯爐, 要待這麼長的時間, 天天吃 bagel 配牛奶實在是撐不下去~~ 就奢侈一點捨 per diem 換廚房吧 :)

這個 Homewood Suites 離原本的 DoubleTree 也不遠, 週遭還有 Chipotle, Schlotzsky's Deli, Chick-Fil-a 這樣的餐廳, 離 wal-mart, target 也不遠, 也算不錯的地點囉!

停車費

繳停車費.. 把錢摺起來塞到那小小的縫縫裏.. 大概只有老外會這樣做吧

CallCall卡及趴趴熊卡到手

里不拉在去美國出差前 跟小琁說 辦一辦CallCall卡吧 說是有現金回饋 可抵用家裡中華電信的通話費 呵 要辦信用卡 小琁當然最開心 二話不說 買上辦辦 雖然是小小碎碎念了一下 咦 這樣電話費不就變小琁出 這樣的現金回饋對小琁沒啥好處ㄇㄟ 呵 不虧我們家的里不拉是很瞭解小琁的 知道小琁喜歡可愛的信用卡 所以就辦了一張趴趴熊的master card 當然也幫小琁辦了一張附卡囉 哈 這是小琁這輩子的第二張附卡唷 結婚前 小琁有小琁媽的附卡 結婚後 小琁有老公里不拉的附卡 真是幸福ㄚ 以後就看小琁心情決定要刷CallCall卡 還是 趴趴熊卡吧 呵呵 親愛的黃哈尼 放心啦 小琁是不會亂刷的唷~所以要對小琁我好一點唷 嘻嘻

初到 Atalanta, Georgia

這次出差到 Atalanta 還蠻多事情值得紀錄一下的~

先來講講小琁媽咪打包行李的功力.. 看來我是越來越依賴我們家那口子了.. 平常上班每天要穿的衣服、出差時的行李都是老婆幫忙打點的.. 謝謝妳, 老婆! 這次因為可能得出差三個月, 所以要帶的東西很多很多, 我們家那口子真的很厲害, 就是能把所有東西通通放進去行李裏面, 然後還不超重。 到 hotel check in 開始 unpack 行李後, 覺得怎麼才一個箱子的東西, 怎麼像小叮噹的口袋一樣, 東西拿都拿不完.. 房間裏的櫃子都快放滿了, 行李箱裏還有東西.. 媽咪, 佩服妳啦!

再來是這次搭的飛機是 747-400 (長榮 BR28), 安排的座位是在飛機上層, 這是第一次坐到這種位置! 上層本來是安排做為頭等艙, 我猜可能是因為有些人覺得, 到頭等艙還得爬樓梯, 不像頭等艙, 所以長榮才把它改成經濟艙的位置! 不過我可是愛死了上層的位置, 它有很多好處..

• 最大的好處就是靠窗的位置旁還有個櫃子可以擺東西, 這次我就把筆記型電腦的袋子放在那, 要拿很方便, 也不礙腳
• 再來是上層的位置不多 (大概 40~50 個人左右), 所以不會看過去黑壓壓一堆人, 很擁擠的感覺.. 廁所也不用排很長的隊
• 窗戶的 view 也比較好.. 一般經濟艙的位置多在飛機後方, 所以通常窗戶看出去會看到機翼.. 747-400 上層的位置是在飛機的前方, 所以沒有機翼擋住視線, 有很好的 view
  

而且這一次知道 3G 影像電話好用的地方了, 在飛機上就跟老婆用影像電話讓她看飛機上的樣子

這次轉機是在 San Francisco, 也是第一次經過~ 比 LA 的機場乾淨許多, 也比較有秩序一點, 機場的 facility 也比較好 (起碼行李的手推車是不用租的.. LA 的要付 US$3 租金)。長榮的銀卡會員7月以後在美國只能在有 San Francisco 使用貴賓室, 我想以後出差到美國都會要求在 San Francisco 轉機了吧!

經過了將近16個小時的飛行, 終於到了 Atalanta~ 去拿已經 book 好的車子~ da da~ 這次竟然租到 VW Jetta 2.5L, 車子還有天窗, 比自己在家裏開的車還好, 有點賺到的感覺 :) 不過實際開一開, 還是覺得日本車好開一點.. Jetta 馬力夠, 可是油門很重, 煞車很輕.. 像我這種開不習慣的人, 常常會在綠燈起步的時候油門踩得太大變成後輪打滑空轉..

Atalanta 的天氣也好熱, 覺得跟台灣一樣, 空氣也濕.. 覺得黏黏的.. 如果小琁媽咪要來這邊.. 應該也是不大習慣吧..

sim card 通訊錄 copy

媽咪手機 sim 卡換成3G啦, 可是通訊錄都存在原本的 2G sim card 上, 怎麼辦呢??

需要幾個東西解決這個問題..

1. sim card 的轉接卡 or 讀卡機 (以前買的 gemplus 有附轉接卡)
2. 可以讀 sim card 的軟體 http://www.dekart.com/products/card_management/sim_manager/

透過這個 sim manager 軟體, 把舊卡的資料讀出來存在新的 3g 卡上~ ok, 搞定

Summerfied suite

以前在 Hawthorne, NY 出差時 (六七年前的事了), 最喜歡待的 hotel 就是 Summerfield suite, 有很豐富的早餐, 週邊的環境也很好..

這次出差.. 突然想起來.. 不知道那時候的 summerfield 現在怎麼樣了.. 用 google map 試著去找一下 hotel.. 發現人的記憶力真的是糟得很可怕.. 怎麼找都找不到那個地方.. 後來還是靠 google search 幫忙才找到.. 原來 hotel 現在變成Hyatt chain 下面

While the principal sources used in determining classifications include reports from representatives, local and regional organizations, etc., the editors must rely heavily on personal judgement, as well as on confidential reports and reactions from our subscribers. Official Hotel Guide Classification System
